MENTAL FITNESS: FROM THE SOFA

Berlin's cultural life is diverse - even when you’re stuck at home. For all those who need a bit of variety to break up the walks and binge-watching, we have a few tips for the cultural fight against boredom.

Fancy a private concert in your living room? Not a problem - both the Berliner Philharmonie and the Konzerthaus Berlin offer digital concert halls where you can tune in at your leisure to everything from classical music to children's programming.

If you fancy a museum tour instead of another walk, the Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin is the place to head to: there you can marvel at a wide variety of collections - around the clock or in live video tours.

Fortunately, Berlin's theatres also provide an online remedy for the lethargy of recent times. Under the hashtag #gorkistream, the  Berliner Ensemble offers a varied digital selection of live events and archived videos from its media library, while the Deutsche Theater also has an online schedule with livestreams and pre-recorded performances.

THROUGH DISTANCE AND ACTION.

If you want to volunteer to help, find out how here at #BERLINGEGENCORONA

We are so proud of all those who want to volunteer in Berlin! If you are looking for an unpaid position, you can find all the important information and over 2,000 active offers on  „Bürgeraktiv“ – the engagement portal of the Berlin Senate Chancellery.

There is also an engagement number for the whole of Berlin, and anyone who would like to help or needs support in their area can get in touch here. Depending on the issue, the appropriate contact person in the district will then be contacted. Tel: 030 577 00 22 00

The current situation is affecting us all, but for senior citizens in particular, the restrictions in terms of human contact pose a real danger of loneliness. People over the age of 60 can call the Silver Network hotline daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. It’s free of charge, anonymous and a sympathetic ear awaits all callers.

Even in these times of the Corona crisis, self-help offers valuable support for those affected and their relatives in many different ways. The podcast „Echte Stimmen“ ” (“Real Voices”), sponsored by AOK Nordost, offers an authentic insight into the world of self-help in Berlin and shows the enormous, often under-estimated diversity of the capital’s self-help landscape.

GIVE A TIP:
100% HELP

Berlin's catering businesses are still in urgent need of help. Those who are able to, can buy a virtual “cold one” here in his or her favorite pub.

Thanks to Helfen.Berlin Berliners can easily offer their support by buying a voucher for their favourite restaurant, café or bar and as soon as these places are allowed to re-open, the purchased vouchers can be redeemed.

If you would like to donate directly to your favourite establishment and offer your help without getting a voucher in return, take a look at the Lokalfreunde initiative.
The Kneipenretter fundraising campaign - as the name suggests – is providing particular support to Berlin’s typical corner pubs, so that they will still exist once they are allowed to re-open.

Looking for pick-up or delivery services nearby? An overview can be found on ther platform, being run by the Hotel- und Gaststättenverband Berlin e.V. (DEHOGA Berlin) under the hashtag #berlinliefert.

STAY FIT IN THE LIVINGROOM.

Lying on the sofa and relaxing is all well and good - but there’s also no harm in getting a bit of exercise or even breaking a sweat in between. With virtual home workouts, the living room can become a sports field in no time at all.
